WEDDINGS

  • Are you looking for a place of beauty for your wedding?
  • Are you unimpressed with the traditional, over-produced wedding?
  • Do you want a ceremony that expresses your love and commitment in a meaningful way?

A traditional wedding with bride and groom

Everybody wants to have the “Wedding of their Dreams” and on most occasions everything is planned down to the last letter……except the content of the Ceremony itself.

In 1994 The laws in the United Kingdom changed, allowing other licensed venues other than registry offices to be used for civil marriage ceremonies. However the content of the ceremony remains pretty much unchanged, and this type of Marriage Service can often be uninspiring and lack the pomp and flair that many couple rightly feel their relationship deserves.

What is not so commonly known in this country – is that ONLY the *Declaratory Words, and the **Contracting words have to be said in a Registry Office or licensed venue, in order for your marriage to be recognised in Law and for a marriage certificate to be issued.

*Declaratory Words:

I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I (your name) may not be joined in matrimony to (partners name)

**Contracting words:

I call up these persons here present to witness that I (your name) do take thee (partners name) to be my lawful wedded wife (or husband)

These 41 word above – (Plus your names) – are the only legal requirements for marriage

Your Wedding

Hand-fasting Ceremony at a wedding

The rest of the service, your choice of music, your vows, your commitment to one another, tributes from friends and family, and exchanging of rings is all purely ceremonial and can take place literally anywhere, anytime. It may be a simple ceremony in your home or garden, or at sunset on the beach with the waves crashing around you, a local beauty spot, or in the middle of a bluebell wood… Ideas are limited only by your imagination.

I offer an open minded, stress free alternative to creating your perfect ceremony, working with you as a couple an adapting to whatever feeling or mood you want to create, it may be relaxed, formal, adventurous or a mixture of everything! But it will be a ceremony which captures your love, your life, your journey together so far, and your aspirations for the future.

I strongly believe that everyone is entitled to their own belief system and each should be respected accordingly. You may be totally non-religious, or have some faith, but still feel that a church service is not right for you, or you may be of different religions and want to include some spiritual aspects from both faiths. I always remember that this is YOUR day, and your are free to incorporate as many of your own ideas as you wish to reflected your own personalities and uniqueness. This may involve. Readings, music, poems or some form of other symbolism which is person to you.

It is not uncommon these days for people to have children before they marry, or to be taking on their partners children from a previous marriage or relationship. So you may like to include your children within the ceremony, either by them contributing some form of spoken or musical tribute if they are old enough, or by adding your commitments to them as you become a new family.

I take much pride in my work, and it gives me great joy to be part of creating a perfect day for you.

Same Sex Marriages

It is truly wonderful news that after so many years of campaigning that legislation in England, Wales and Scotland now allows for Same Sex Marriages. However a Same Sex marriage in either a registry office or in an approved venue is generally going to be a process of registration with pretty standard wording delivered by a registrar whom you have never met before and who will no doubt be delivering the same service to several other couples that day. However if you would like your legal marriage registration to followed by a beautiful personalised ceremony which is written especially for you and reflects the uniqueness of your love and your relationship then please contact me for further details.

Once your marriage has been legally registered then your ceremony with me can take place in ANY location.

“Dear Terri,
Thank you so so much for all your amazing work and for giving us the most moving and memorable ceremony we could have wished for. So many people have said to us how much they loved the ceremony and all its personal touches and the whole day was utterly magical for us. Thank you again for making our wedding day so special! Rosa and Cathy xx”

Fees

My fee within the Sussex area is £520 per wedding and includes my initial meeting with you both, writing and preparing the script, which will of course be given to you for approval before the day itself. A rehearsal a few days before the wedding, and conducting the Wedding Ceremony itself.

I can conduct Wedding Ceremonies outside of Sussex, but extra expenses will be payable depending on location.

* IMPORTANT – I AM A CELEBRANT AND NOT A REGISTRAR, AND THEREFORE FOR YOUR MARRIAGE TO BE RECOGNISED IN LAW, YOU MUST COMPLETE THE LEGAL FORMALITIES AT A REGISTRY OFFICE PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY. This is usually either done earlier the same day or the day before.

Whatever your personal wishes are for the wedding service, please feel free to discuss them with me.
